The Mystery Spot is an area about 150 feet in diameter located in the redwood forests just outside of Santa Cruz. Within the Mystery Spot the laws of physics do not apply. You will experience a series of surprises that are unique and inexplicable.

The park features 15 miles of hiking trails through a forest that looks much the same as it did 200 years ago. The park is the home of the Redwood Grove, with a self¬guided nature path, and Douglas fir, madrone, oak and the most unusual feature of the park, a stand of Ponderosa pine. The park has a picnic area above the San Lorenzo River, and a nature center and bookstore. The main park area, containing the large, old growth redwoods, is about 1,750 acres, and the northern area (Fall Creek) is 2,390 acres, with about 20 miles of hiking trails. The tallest tree in the park is about 285 feet tall and about 16 feet wide. The oldest trees in the park are about 1400 to 1800 years old.

Big Basin is California’s oldest State Park, established in 1902. Home to the largest continuous stand of Ancient Coast Redwoods south of San Francisco, the park consists of over 18,000 acres of old growth and recovering Redwood Forest, with mixed conifer, oaks, chaparral, and riparian habitats. The park has over 80 miles of trails, waterfalls, many animals, and lots of bird life.

Steam Train: Travel over trestles, through towering redwood groves and up a winding narrow gauge grade to the summit of Bear Mountain as conductors narrate the history of Roaring Camp, the railroad and the forest! 1-hour roundtrip.

Beach Train: The beach train travels through Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park, down the scenic San Lorenzo River Gorge, across a 1909 steel truss bridge, and through an 1875 tunnel before arriving at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. This trip is a total of 3 hours roundtrip.
